America and Europe on my employers' dimes that I might not have otherwise visited. Have attended perhaps 15 of these conferences over the past 35 years and they've taken me to many cities in N.

The uncertainties of the pandemic along with the hassles of traveling from SF at age 60 with an arthritic spine, plus too much going on at work made my decision. It would have been my only reason to ever visit Philadelphia. Kind of bummed reading this thread as I have decided not to attend a conference at the PA Convention Center in early June. The Italian Market and East Passyunk restaurant row are much more interesting - and walkable from the gayborhood. Society Hill (front st to 6th st/Chestnut to South) has some amazing blocks of perfectly preserved Colonial era neighborhoods, I think Society Hill is a must see along with Independence Hall, Second Bank of US, and the numerous 1700s houses that represent the largest collection of pre-1800 houses in America. Stay in the Center - below Vine St Expressway. No gay bars and lots of post college kids trying to be hip. It’s far removed from everything and is almost a cliche of hipsterdom with a few cool places (next to heroin central in Kensington). The gayborhood is awesome though - a great place to bar hop and check out 5-6 gay bars and choose one of a dozen great restaurants.ĭon’t waste your time trekking/Ubering out to Fishtown/Kensington. U Bar is probably a, more “professional” middle class gay mans bar.

But Tabu is pretty much the place to be for everything. But the late night dancing upstairs is fun. Woodys has become a beer bar with lots of straight girls.
